Triplizer (Tripleizer) Triple Adapter Chainrings
A triplizer (also spelled tripleizer) is a bicycle chainring
(and often related hardware) that converts a double bike crank to a
triple crank. On this page are described triple chainring adapters by
Willow, TA, Merz, and Stronglight. Highpath Engineering in the UK is
a 5th source of (custom) triplizer rings.
Our thanks to Don Gillies for gathering and providing
these triplizer images and information.
Willow Triplizer Chainrings

The above drawing is courtesy of Rivendell
Bicycle Works.
It takes an inner chainring with a bolt circle diameter
(BCD) of 74mm. The Willow Triplizer is available at Harris
Cyclery in Boston. Sheldon Brown provides some additional information
on installing
the Willow triplizer here.
TA Triplizer
The TA Triplizer is designed to convert a Campagnolo
Nuovo or Super Record crank into a triple crank. It also will work on
most other (campy copy) cranks that use the Campagnolo 144 bolt circle
diameter. It accepts a 74mm bolt circle diameter inner chainring. It
is available at Harris
Cyclery in Boston and includes mounting hardware. It's also available
at Peter
White Cycles in New Hampshire.
Merz Triple Adapter Chainring

Unfortunately, the Merz triple adapter chainring is
no longer in production.

The Stronglight 135 BCD modern triplizer may require
the inner spider of a Campagnolo Record / Chorus crankset to be ground
away. I (Don Gillies) am not sure, since I do
not own one of these cranks. This is not desirable. (Photo Courtesy
