Gallery - 1985 Trek 170, John Satory
Here is the story on John's unique New Old Stock (NOS)
Trek 170. John writes: "Back in the late 80's I was a rep for Trek.
While I was driving around in what seemed like the middle of nowhere,
I was skimming a stock status report. A part number caught my eye as
being unusual. I investigated and found out that it was a 170 frame
set that had been sitting in the warehouse since the early part of 1985
when the person who placed the order for it through a dealer backed
out of the sale...and so it sat. I purchased it and assembled it piece-by-piece
with NOS Campy that I would find during my travels."
"It is my understanding that this frameset was
built sometime during March of 1985 by Kelly Gamble. Back then, if someone
wanted to buy a Trek 170, he/she had a choice of 14 different Imron
Colors and a choice of a Campy SR or Shimano DA groupo. All for only
$2000.00! It has been hanging on the wall at a shop since 1991. It has
NEVER been ridden! The tires haven't been glued yet and no rear derailleur
cable!"
"If you have anyone who is interested in buying
this bike, please let me know." johnlsatory@yahoo.com
