Gallery - 1979 Trek 510 owned by George Nenni

Here are Pictures of George Nenni's 1979 Trek 510 - A great find. It is likely the bike was bought as a bare frame and then built up, either by the bike shop or the original owner. Many of the components are not what would have come from Trek, but the components models are old enough to be original. The quality components on the bike were selected with long-distance touring in mind.

George writes: "I recently began looking for a nice old road bike for both exercise and for pulling our small kids in a trailer. I wanted a better quality bike for less money, so I decided to buy used. I ended up stopping by a nearby bike shop that said they carried some used models. They showed me some bikes for $300-$400 that were nice, but that was probably more than I wanted to spend. I asked if they had any road bikes for less than $200, and they pulled out this fairly old-looking black Trek, that was very dirty and dusty, but otherwise seemed in good condition. They wanted $150, which seemed very reasonable. After a quick test ride, I bought the bike."

"According to the serial # decoder, this bike is a June, 1979 Model 510. Serial number is F2G9O82. It cleaned up incredibly well, and doesn't have a scratch on it! It has this great metallic black paint job. I was really into bikes when I was a kid, and I can adjust and repair them, but I really don't know much about the brand names on components. Here's a list of this Trek's equipment as I can decipher:

Superbe front and rear brakes, and brake levers.
TTT Super Leggero (made in Italy) handlebar
Avocet hubs
Super Champion Competition (made in France) rims
TA Specialties "Cyclotouriste" triple crank (creates 15-speeds)
Kyokuto Pro Ace (made in Japan) pedals
Shimano 600 front derailleur
SunTour VX rear derailleur
SunTour bar end shifters

SR Laprade seat post
Touriste L seat"
